NEWCASTLE UNITED

Its been a while since I have written anything black n white even though writing about Newcastle United is far from black and white. I have been wanting to start up again for a long time and have finally acted on it. So here we go newcastleun1ted.blogspot.com is back and so seems United are or is it all a load of tripe?

 Well there is one thing for sure its never dull at St James' Park and after a good 3 points against Aston Villa we find ourselves dreaming of Europe. There are a few obstacles in our way though namely 14 premiership games and the likes of  Chelski Arse nal and them scallywags from Merseyside. lets hope we can do the impossible and get into you know what. Howay the lads.

 With 14 games to go till the season is at its end Newcastle United sit in 5^th spot having again taken a large slice of lucky pie to take two points at struggling Blackburn rovers and Aston Villa. The East Lancashire club are in real danger of relegation but showed no jitters on a cold night at Ewood park. Newcastle United again played off the park but somehow managed 2 goals and with other results going our way we landed nicely for the home tie against the villains. The new Senegalese boys to shone and it was United who again took the 3points with lady luck serving us well again on a day that saw  Papiss Demba Cisse mark a fantastic debut. The new number 9 started earlier than thought after Best went off with medial ligament damage. A fantastic goal we wont forget in a hurry but will leave the Toon army craving more.

  Can we sustain this position and dare I say Champions league? Well of course I would say no. No because just like the last couple of games NUFC have had a lot of luck this season. I am happy with 3 points as we all are but are we happy with the football? Away at Blackburn we were outclassed, Brighton away we were tripe and as for Fulham… if you saw the game then you know the Toon Army deserve better.

The thing is this has been the same all season, promised by Pardew that we would see quality attacking football all I can say is WHEN? Yes we have managed to pull out some performances for instance, Villa (a), Spurs (h), Stoke (a), Man C (a) and of course Manchester United both home and away.  That’s 6 games, the rest of the time we have had to put up with lame very unattractive football and sneaking lucky goals. We have lost to Norwich, West Brom, Brighton, Fulham and a few we could expect to lose against.  When will we start performing against these teams and taking the points.  Are we happy watching bad football and winning?

The transfer market has brought what looks like a good signing and with our big 4 players still at St Jamse’ Park (Krull, Tiote, Ba, Colo) then its deemed as a success. Have we been programmed by Ashley to be happy with what we have got? It’s blatantly obvious that we need a central defender but we all knew it wasn’t going to happen. If or when Colo picks up an injury we have Perch and Williamson left to patch things up. Let’s just hope we don’t have to go there although Perch has done well recently.  The way things are we need to build on our position strengthen the team and fight for that 4^th spot. Christ people are talking about Spurs winning the league, why can’t we get in the champions league. We could have made a damn good try if we brought in a quality defender. We will give it a go anyway I am sure, whatever happens this summer it should be a busy time for United. We must build on the foundation set. 

Newcastle’s fixture list  over the next over the next 4 games is  tricky -  Spurs (a), Wolves (h), mackems (h) and Arsenal (a) if we can pick up 7 points from these games then that would be acceptable a home win over the unwashed is a must and wolves should be there for the taking. But the two games away in north London will be difficult games and we will be lucky to get any points.

As I mentioned earlier about the fourth spot finish, is that too much to ask? remember we are in 5^th now, 1 point behind Chelsea? If we had brought in more quality during the transfer window and let’s not forget the Carroll money has still not been spent, we could have gone to north London thinking hold on we can win this. As things are we brought in a player who looks good but is unproven, let’s face it with his competition he should walk into the team. Those boys had their chance during the African cup of nations while Ba was away playing with the new lad and did they take it?
