Ashley goes for the Jugular

Mike Ashley is taking Newcastle United apart piece by piece with a little help from his friend, Derick "dickhead" Lameass. Andy Carroll has been in the papers again and again this season and now finds himself the centre of controversy on Tyneside. Spurs had put in offers for the lanky striker - 'Arry Redknapp was prepared to pay £25m - but it seems Mike Cashley was rubbing his hands together at the prospect of a bidding war for the young Geordie. Ashley played his cards early on in this deal' Pardew was all part of the plan and Ashley has been bluffing ever since. Pardew said one of the condition of his arrival was a no Carroll sale. Carroll has said time and time again that he loves Newcastle and wants to stay. Why would he go to Houghton and ask for the number 9 shirt if he was wanting out? Pardew is a puppet on a string and will happily lap up the shite that constantly leaks from Mike Cashley's mouth as well as the dickhead that sits with him at the game.

Andy Carroll is a quality player and will always attract interest but do we need to sell him? Even at £35 million we don't. Carroll, a young Geordie lad with his career ahead of him, can attract players to the club. He can also sell shirts, put bums on seats and fire us up the Prem or at least keep us in it . £35 million to me sound like a bargain for Liverpool.

Why then is this bad business? Because Andy Carroll never wanted to leave. He never put a transfer request in. It was all a ploy, a game, a bluff, by Cashley. You see, if Ashley sells Carroll it will be deemed by the Toon Army as another last straw. But if he lets people believe he tried till the last minute to keep Carroll out the clutches of the Scousers then Geordies will then believe the rubbish about a transfer request being handed in. It's codswallop, absolute shite and are we really surprised? NO. How can it be true? Why would Ashley rebuff offers from Liverpool. Well, one so he looks good to the fans and secondly, he gets a better offer for more gambling money. Mike Ashley has been banding Carroll around the Premiership for the last week or so. What the hell does he think he is doing if he thinks he can pull the wool over our eyes? Why would he now suddenly have a change of heart? Why would he want Carroll to stay when he can recoup money he lost because he did not do his homework on the clubs finances when he bought out the Halls and Shepard? Mike Ashley must be laughing his arse off behind the scenes.

What else has happened in the past few years? Well, he gets rid of Allardyce and brings home Kevin Kegan but things go bad when Wise comes in and starts interfering. Ashley then sells Milner despite assurances to the manager that he would be staying. Keegan then leaves and Newcastles bring in none other that Joe Fucking Kinnear. Massive demonstrations are short lived and everyone forgets very quickly. After Kinnear has another heart attack, Houghton takes over again till Shearer is sweet talked into the manager's job but it's not good enough and we go down. This may have been a plot by Ashley to offload the bigger earners. That's what happens but he goes back on his word about giving Shearer the job. People got pissed off and gates were down about 10,000. During this time, as if relegation is not enough, he changes the name of our beloved ground and expects us all to still go to the games. However, out of all this despair, there was a silver lining. Chris Houghton, who became the manager by default, blows everyone away by getting us promotion first time of asking and with time to spare.

When promotion came, people ceased being angry with Cashley until he made yet another howler by getting rid of the man who put up with his crap for so long and at the same time managed to strengthen the club's financial position. Cashley brings in a man with a hole up his arse, large enough for Ashley's hand to fit right up to the neck. The first garbled crap that comes out of Pardew's puppet mouth is that Carroll will not be sold as it was part of the terms of him joining NUFC. Hahahahaha what a load of bullshit. Pardew would have been told that Carroll was to go and that he would get a small amount to fuck around with. All he needed to do was to just tell the Geordies anything as they will believe him and even if they didn't, they would just forget in a couple of weeks.

Chris' sacking caused uproar on Tyneside and in football in general. Everyone had a renewed hatred for Ashley and Lameass but somehow the gate goes up even though our home form is terrible and Ashley has once again shat on us from a great height. So come on, try and convince me that Ashley wanted to keep Carroll. No chance, no fucking chance. He has been eyeing up this move since the Championship. His philosophy is not to copy Arsenal by nurturing young talent and build a great team. His philosophy is, "I fucked up and I want my money back and while I do this I am going to fuck every Geordie up the arse as hard as I possibly can and as many times as I can".

So please, do us all a favour. No more petitions, no more bedsheets and no more half arsed protests outside St James' Park. Just stop going; that will hurt Cashley the most.

He will not stop so someone has to.

Spurned Chances

Spurs came to St James' Park with high expectations but left feeling lucky they got the point. After a miserable first half, Newcastle came out to show 'Arry and his boys just how to play football. A brilliant game had both sides playing open football with Newcastle having the better of the play. It was us who took the lead with a well deserved goal from birthday boy and man of the match Fabricio "I want curly hair too" Coloccini. Again Barton played a brilliant and gave Ashley and co a headache about a new contract and how much he really is worth. Late in the game however, Newcastle's defence was again breached in injury time and Spurs went away from the North East with a point.

Mackems Get Lucky

So Newcastle made the short journey to the nearby shanty town called Sunderland on Sunday in anticipation of the return leg of the first game that saw Newcastle rip apart their local rivals and humiliate both fans and players alike. Let's also not forget Steve Bruce, who apparently had a song waiting to be played if, and a big if, Sunderland were to beat us.
Steve Bruce didn't get that song played and he was lucky he got the draw - a last minute deflection that beat Harper and the mackem that deflected it. He knew nothing of the ball coming to him and did not in any way, shape or form use his body to get on the end of it. It fell to him kindly and bounced off him kindly and took the shine off our performance and season. Oh, how good would it have been to silence those wannabe top dogs in the North East? Even when we were in a league below, we were the bigger, better club, hands down.
This draw therefore took a little of the shine off what could have been a great season. By that I mean if we had kept the man who got us back into the Premiership and also led us to beat the mackems resoundingly. If Chris was still our manager maybe we would have beat the mackenms again. In fact, I am sure we would have. However, Pardew could not get the Derby win although Newcastle took them apart again and really should have scored more than one. Ameobi had a great chance early on and he does loves scoring against the underdogs we call mackems. He sits at level pegging with the greatest Geordie of all time, Jackie Milburn, for the most derby goals. If he had gotten one in on Sunday, he would have gone on to be the highest scorer against Sunderland in the famous Black n White shirt. Instead, the scoring was again left to the funky chicken man (does anyone know why he does this? Please leave a comment). Yes, Nolan back heeled a Shola header into the back of the mackem's net and took his tally to 4 against them. Long may that continue.

A point against our local rivals is not good enough though especially when they sit 5 points above us, although we have a game in hand away at Birmingham. The gap could have been two points with us going into our next fixture with an eye on them and a bloody good chance of knocking them down a peg.

The display was fantastic by all our players but again, Joey Barton was brilliant. He had the crowd on his back again which perhaps does spur him on week in, week out. Barton not only had the boos but he received a few licks, just like in any derby. He didn't complain though but picked himself up and got on with it and put in a match winning performance. Steve Bruce had a dig at him for going down too often; perhaps he should have a go at his players instead for their lack of football. If they had not been picking Barton out for rough treatment, maybe we would have gone on to win. Still, roughed up or not, Joey thrives in adversity and I am sure he will come back to slap Brucey in the chops for his ridiculous comments.

Finally, a point to make about the underdogs and their fans who understandably get carried away. They have been living Newcastle's shadow for their entire existence and when we went down they must have thought it was their time. Things didn't pan out the way they thought though, eh. We went down, got rid of our crap, came straight back up and dissolved any thoughts and hopes the red and white of Sunderland may have of being the top team in the North East. It was all too apparent when they scored the equaliser. They went crazy. It was in the last minute but it was only for a draw but after the humiliating 5-1 drubbing given out by the bigger and better rivals, you would have thought their celebration of a very lucky and late equaliser after being totally dominated at their ground for 90 minutes, would be more subdued. They showed their true colours then and thought a lucky goal at the end to get one point from six and an aggregate of 6-2 to Tyneside was all fine. Well, I think they should crawl back under the stone they came from and next time they open their mouth about North East football, they should stop and think very, very, carefully. That is if they are capable of this as we all know what they are like in the ghetto.

Bentley on the way to Newcastle?

David Bentley looks set to join us from Spurs once the two clubs can settle a fee. It looks like Spurs wheeler dealer Redknapp wanted to use Bentley as a carrot for Andy Carroll but Cashley has apparently opted out of selling Carroll and instead wants to improve or at least add to the current squad. Bentley was a decent player for Blackburn before he left for Spurs but has shown very little since he has been in London and this sounds very much like a certain Damien Duff. He came to Tyneside with high expectations but proved only that he was well passed his best in his Blackburn days. I am not sure about Bentley. I think Spurs just want him off the wage list so will sell for cheap and will not be in a position to command a great deal (in comparison) in wages. I can't see him setting the place on fire but he can't be worse than Routledge has been for us.

I hope I am wrong and he is able to supply the crosses for Andy Carroll, Shola, Best and Ranger but he must be very low on confidence at the moment. At 26, he is young and could be worth the gamble as he would surely not lose value as much as certain South Americans. Is a winger what we need at the moment with Gutierrez playing his best football since he signed for us, Ben Arfa coming back, Joey Barton playing out his skin week in week out, not to mention Gosling coming back? I would be in the market for a right back or a quick centre forward who can play off Carroll etc. Gosling has got the ability to play right back but is that where we want the lad to play? It's looking pretty congested out on the wings and in midfield in general.

Leon Fest

Leon Best made his first Premiership tonight in the absence of Andy Carroll and Shola Ameobi. Both players, out injured, would be watching this game with mixed emotions; on the one hand happy for the lad to bag a hat trick, but on the other also thinking about their starting places. Both Lovenkrands and Best got goals tonight along with Nolan who has not seen a goal in a few games. These players have stepped up to the mark and took the initiative which has resulted in a goal or threes apiece, with Leon's performance worthy of a man of the match award, even without the hat-trick. His movement, touch and general desire were spot on tonight but they have to be as not many chances have come his way this season. This performance has definitely lifted his profile and sent out a message. As always, Joey Barton was class out on the right. He fed balls in all night and good ones at that. His performances are getting better and he is a calm but committed player.
Two worries from last night's game came with the two injuries. Steven Taylor, just back from god knows how many injuries, did not come out for the second half and Gutierrez was hauled off with an injury. With the likes of Gosling back in full training and Ben Arfa not far behind, things are looking good and competition for places is hot as everyone is playing well. Morale at the club could really not be better as the players are visibly good friends - long may this continue. West Ham were nowhere near us again and seem to be a team we take points from for fun. That won't be for long though as they look doomed for the Championship where Sheffield United wait patiently to give them a good old hiding, like the one we gave them last night. Scotty Parker was up to his old tricks tonight churning up the turf doing his circle thing. He had a shot at goal but his head was soon down as he was given a lesson in how to play center midfield by Cheik Tiote.

West Ham, funnily enough, started out by coming out fighting and looked like they would give us a decent game. The same thing happened at the Boleyn; we got on top of them, they could not handle it and Newcastle were all over them like England playing the Aussies in the Ashes (how long is it since the Aussies had the Ashes now, by the way?).
So three goals for Best must give him the confidence to come in for the FA Cup game at Stevenage. Andy Carroll is not playing the FA Cup match but is 50/50 for the away trip down the road to the ghetto. He will be banging on the door to play in that but so will Carroll and Shola, who has a knack of scoring against the unwashed. Ranger came on for Best last night as he picked up a knock and had a very good chance to bag one and make it six. However, he opted to use his right foot instead of sweeping it in with his left. His feet were in a terrible position and the ball went embarrassingly wide. He made another good chance later on but nobody got in the box to support and his good work went up in smoke. There was also a first Premiership start for fresh face Ferguson too. He looked comfortable but this was the game to blood a young lad as West Ham had nothing. A long, long trip back to East London for the Cockneys for a jellied eel supper.

Wigan Kebab Sells Out But the JW is Empty

Wigan kebabs must have been sold out in Wigan on Sunday as 5000 Geordies watched Newcastle United take a resilient Wigan apart. The Geordies don't fail to support the lads wherever or whenever; they are indeed the 12th man and a happy bunch at that.

With Andy Carroll in the news again this week, for football reasons this time, Newcastle had some worrying to do with good old Shola coming in to replace him. Shola has been ok these last couple of years though and I reckon we should hang on to him even if it's just to put him on against the Mackems. Well, he came in and within seconds had the goal at his mercy but you know Shola. He got his head on the end of a magnificent cross but put it the wrong side of the cross bar. Not long passed before Shola was given another chance and this time he made no mistake planting the ball into the back of the net. Newcastle played well throughout the match with only Nolan struggling but big performances from Tiote, Coloccini and Barton helped Newcastle back to winning ways. Peter Lovenkrands was back in the starting 11 and gave as good a performance as we have seen from him this season. However that was not difficult to achieve. He looked sharp and able, put in a good shift and worked for the good of the team, which is or was the Houghton ethic, and looks to be Pardew's way of playing thing as he does not want to upset the balance or the good work already done.

With Houghton now almost forgotten Pardew is keeping a low profile but is picking up praise which should still land at Houghtons door

With Houghton now almost forgotten, Pardew is keeping a low profile but is picking up praise which should still land at Houghton's door. That said we have been playing good football and it was only the Spurs game where we seemed to be overrun. Rumours are again circling like vultures around St James' park and some of them are claiming Carroll's exit to wannabe big boys Spurs, who seem to be linked with any decent player these days. United have issued a hands off warning to any potential suitors and it seems we are in the market for the right reasons but who knows what that fatty will do next.

Newcastle left Wigan with nothing over the last few years but today the drive and commitment was there to see and we came home with the points to take us back into the top half of the table. It was lucky that Insomnia had seen red in Wigan's previous game against Arsenal, where they came back from 0-2 down to get a point. Their tails high, and a good record against us had the commentators (if that's what you can call them) calling for our head. Insomnia missing the game was to our advantage as he is their best player and has two goals against us, his old club, this season.

Spurs Pile on the Pressure

With Pardews first game being played with raw passion for former manager Chris Houghton you could harldy say it was down to Pardew who got the points against a Liverpool team strugling with form this season. So a first game in charge against City we did play well but lost and conceded three goals so a Bad start for Pardew and an away fixture at the Lane was right up our ally or it was under Houghton. A resiliant display but in the end not resilient enough and pardew suffered his second defeat in as many matches. The game was sealed by in form Bale who had at one point tried to impress his girlfriend when going down like a dead man from a Barton challenge. The first goal however came from a player who rarely gets on the score sheet even though on sight of goal he never passes. Yes it was Lennon with his lovely eyebrows that match his lovely hair cut too. Just our luck to be done by a championship player when half of our squad are championship players themselves. Lovenkrands had a oppotunity to drag his sorry ass back into the fram but with a poor first touch hie ended up laying the ball off to Carroll and his chance went begging. Routledge must be looking for an exit from St James' Park as yet another inadequate display gave the host s nothing to think about. So two games into his charge for Europe Pardew finds himself with 0 Wins, 0 Draws and 2 loses mmmm not a good start and with a bogey team in good form next up it looks like a Unhappy New Year for Pardew and that means for us too. Can Pardew hack a big club Like Newcastle United, can he hack the Premiership or is it too early to be Questioning him and his results? Southhampton did not think so they got rid early doors but five and a half years seems to me like he will still be in charge next season premiership or not, Yipee.

City Get Lucky Again

Last time we played City we ended up getting beat 2-1 and having Ben Arfa's leg broken in two places. Penalties given or not given, this time we had a point to prove but we were caught napping and found ourselves two down after only five minutes. With that score against this City, it was never going to be easy but Newcastle regrouped and played some neat football and really deserved to go in at half-time with at least one goal. However, it took local lad Carroll until the 72nd minute to get one back. Newcastle were brilliant in the second half but as the goal came late on we were chasing the game and leaving big gaps at the back. No other than Carlos 'I want out' Tevez took advantage and got lucky with a massive deflection to get number three and put the game out of reach. The lads to their credit did not give up but carried on trying to get another goal. We can consider ourselves unlucky again against the most expensive team ever assembled in the Premiership.

Newcastle v Liverpool, Ashley, Llambias and Pardew

Before last Saturday's clash with Liverpool, the Toon army seemed determined to show Ashley and co what they thought of him and his latest decision to sack the man who united and stabilised the club for the first time in over a decade. The "protest" had been given plenty of media attention and with a promise of cameras being there, it was a fine opportunity for the Toon Army to give Ashley the middle finger and let him know what he should already know. What actually transpired was a small gathering of about two hundred young lads with a few older Geordies outside the main entrance to the Milburn stand who came up with some half-hearted and short lived protest songs and even some happy birthday songs for Hughton. The protest was weak and would not have been heard by the fat cats sat in the directors fat seats especially as people were walking round with NUFC club shop bags, i.e. the boycott of all merchandise was not being observed as wished for by the most ardent fans.

As the game approached, the fans removed their peaceful protest and sulked off to their season ticket seats to witness a pretty dull first half with outbreaks of "We want Ashley out" in small pockets around the ground. Pardew was lucky to escape the abuse despite being another Mafia boy and it was only Ashley who came under the cosh from the Geordies who gorged themselves on his beer before the game and at half time. Pardew will however not be able to hide from the baying Geordie public for too long as results like this will not be forthcoming every week. He is doomed to fail just like all his other clubs. He will however come out of this job with a pocket full of money and a headache. We got the first goal before half time and not long after the interval, Liverpool grabbed one back. However, it was two late goals from Barton and Carroll that swept the Geordies off their feet into no man's land as they did not know whether to laugh or cry. It surely took the edge off any real demonstrations about Ashley and co as the majority seemed happy to go along with his desicions as long as were winning. The fact is it won't be long till Pardew is a Souness, Allardyce, JFK etc. At this point, will the Geordies turn on Pardew or will they get behind him for the sake of the team? Should we get behind Ashley for the sake of the team? Is Ashley wrong for getting rid of Hughton? If he is, then you can't support his people or his decisions or at least I can't I and I didn't. I called for all heads to roll and I walked out before half time vowing never to return until Ashley, Llameass and Pardew are out of our once great club. Its only going to get worse with these clowns in charge and I would not forgive myself for ever getting behind them just like JFK. I remember the 1-1 draw at Everton the season we went down, people were actually singing his F..... name. Well, it wasn't me and I won't be singing Pardew's now or ever. If you're going to get behind the team and Pardew why stop there? You may as well get behind the owner as it's all his doing. F..k Pardew is what I say and his buddies and if any of them are reading this then I hope they take heed and piss off ASAP.

F..k Pardew is what I say and his buddies and if any of them are reading this then I hope they take heed and piss off ASAP

Before you write me off as a Newcastle United fan, I have a thing or two to say. I have, like every other Newcastle fan, been through some good times under Keegan but mainly it's been mediocre or depressing. I've seen us go down from the top division/league twice and struggle in the lower reaches of 2nd tier of football but my support has never wavered. I have always been a proud Geordie and stood behind our club through thick and thin and under Ashley it's been no exception. Every man has his breaking point though and it seems I have reached mine. I will no longer put money into the club by buying NUFC related gear or go to the games, home or away. This is a shame because nothing will ever stop me from supporting Newcastle United. Nothing ever could; non-league football could not do that. I am in a corner now as I want Pardew out desperately but hate seeing my team lose and slip down the table but I believe it's inevitable either way with Ashley at the helm. So as much as it pains me, Saturdays are going to tough, tougher than when we had Allardyce or Souness. I will grin and bear it until we ride the storm and hopefully it won't be too long till Ashley sells and puts all the players and Geordies around the world out of their miseries.

The players deserve a mention too as they are caught in the middle of this and although they have come out in support of Hughton, they have also got on with the football. As a player it's their job but it would have been easy for them to turn around and want out especially with this soap opera. We need to keep our local heros like Carroll, Barton and Enrique (they are all Geordies). How hard is it for them to stay at a club like ours? They deserve credit for standing up and getting on with it and I applaud them for that. I sincerely hope the majority will still be there when Ashley sells up.

We won the game 3-1 and moved into 8th, papering over the massive cracks at St James' Park. If you have not guessed already my song goes like this : "I want Pardew out, I want Pardew out I want Pardew out, I want Pardew out I want Pardew out, I want Pardew out I want Pardew out, I want Pardew out I want Pardew out, I want Pardew out I want Pardew out, I want Pardew out I want Pardew out, I want Pardew out I want Pardew out, I want Pardew out I want Pardew out, I want Pardew out I want Pardew out, I want Pardew out I want Pardew out, I want Pardew out I want Pardew out, I want Pardew out I want Pardew out, I want Pardew out I want Pardew out, I want Pardew out I want Pardew out, I want Pardew out I want Pardew out, I want Pardew out"

Pardew go now while the goings good

Pardew, get a cab and go home cause nobody wants you in Newcastle. You're not welcome, just as this picture shows.

Alan Pardew cut a very lonely figure at his photo shoot at St James' Park and his subsequent press conference on Wednesday. It's a true reflection of the feelings on Tyneside about the Pardew Puppet. Mike Ashley has made mistake after mistake and this could be his last if every Newcastle fan gets behind a campaign to oust the owner.

How can we get behind a manager who is clearly a pal of Cashley and Llameass? If we do that, Assley and Llamass will be rubbing their hands together laughing at us. They need to get a cab with Pardew. This is the lowest moment in Newcastle United's recent history and it's all down to Mike Assley after making one terrible decision after another.

Assley will only leave Newcastle once he can regain his money and more, or if he is losing money quick. That brings us into the equation. We need to protest; loud and peacefully. After the Saturday protest we need to keep it up week in week out. The people to do this are those with tickets already bought or season ticket holders. If you don't have tickets for games don't buy any, don't renew season tickets and if you're in the ground, DONT buy anything. You should have avoided Sports Direct long ago so the idea is strangle the fat ..... He understands money, so let him not have it. We may have to suffer not going to the games for a year or so but it's better than what we have had to put up with since he took over.

We really need to act on this. A group of Newcastle fans will still go to games, especially season ticket holders, but a home fixture of 20,000 or less till the end of the season will be well publicised and will put enormous pressure on an already pressured fat bloke. We can't just have a couple of banners out for the games. We need to GET RID OF HIM.

People keep saying we need to get behind Pardew but if we do that who is to say we won't go down this season or next season. If we want our club back we need to get rid of Assley. Pardew is a massive step backwards. The players will already be planning exits out in January or summer. I think they would also understand why the fans are staying away and would sympathise with us.

As the football world always tells us, we are the best fans in the country and they are right. It's hard for us to stay away from our beloved club. Our passion and loyalty lie deep within but we have got to put them aside no matter how hard it is to get our club back.

If Assley were to sell up we would be free of our shackles so let's be united in our struggle to get rid of this pretender. Stand up be counted and don't forget what its all about.

ASHLEY OUT

Protest being arranged for outside St James' Park for 4pm Saturday afternoon before the Liverpool game. If you can make it go and show your feelings. If you cant make it watch sky sports news or ESPN where the game will be shown live.

The protest will take place at 4pm on Saturday.

The aim of the protest is for fans to show appreciation for Chris Hughton and express their anger at the ownership of Mike Ashley. The protest will take place at 4pm outside SJP box office, an hour and a half before new manager Alan Pardew takes charge of his first game against Liverpool.

One of the organisers, Krishan Turner-Dave told NUFCfans.co.uk:
"The aim of the protest is to show our appreciation for the work that Chris Hughton did for our club. We also want to show our anger of the disgraceful treatment of Chris Hughton and the direction Ashley is taking the club by appointing Alan Pardew."
"We hope to show Chris Hughton just how grateful we are of what he has done for our football club. We also want to make it clear to Mike Ashley that we will no longer accept his terrible mismanagement of our football club."

He also said that this was a long-term campaign:
"We do not expect overnight success. We hope that all Newcastle fans that disagree with the way Mike Ashley is running our club come and protest in any constructive and peaceful they see fit."
"We think that pressure on Ashley, alongside a nationwide boycott by Newcastle supporters (and football supporters in general) of Sports Direct (Ashley owned) we can force Mike Ashley to reconsider his ownership of the club."
There have also been talks of a mass walkout from fans during the game. However, such plans have not been finalised.

Newcastle fans are angry at the sacking of Chris Hughton and the subsequent appointment of Alan Pardew.

Used and abused

Even after some poor performances and results in recent weeks, nobody has suggested or even hinted at Chris Hughton joining the ever growing list of sacked managers at Newcastle. But now, the man who brought us back to the top flight and put millions back onto the price tag of St James' Park has fallen to the Ashley guillotine.

What the hell is Mike "The Manic" Ashley doing? He has certainly alienated himself from the Geordie public never mind the people who support Newcastle United. Now he seems to be alienating himself from football in general. It's about time people understood what we have been going through under this prick. The big sufferers in this are us, the fans and Chris Hughton along with Paul Barron. It's certainly a heavy price to pay for everyone to finally sympathise with us fans rather than blaming us every time something happens at the club.

Hughton was given the task of keeping us in the Premier League this season and has reached a tally that if doubled, would probably see us safe in the top flight next season even though we are just half way through our season now. Hughton was a new, up and coming manager who worked hard, has the total backing of Tyneside and was an asset to the club and fans. But then so was Keegan.

Now he seems to be alienating himself from football in general

Has another manager been lined up? The bookies have stopped taking bets on Alan Pardew? Yes Alan Parwho. Has Hughton lost the dressing room - NO. Had he fallen out with Ashley? We have a squad capable of staying up but also of surrendering. If we don't have a man in charge who commands respect then relegation is now looking us firmly in the eyes. The players all respected Hughton as did the fans and the football community so why the does Ashley continue to make these terrible decisions? Our recent failure to secure points can be linked to a lack of support for Hughton in terms of transfer money. The fact that at least four first team players were out for our last three games does point to a weak squad and no manager can do anything about that if not given funds. We can all rule out the only man in English football capable of turning us round, Martin O'Neil, as he would demand from Ashley what Keegan demanded. Hughton has done a remarkable job under the circumstances.

The only time we have been successful as a club since Ashley took over has been when he did nothing and supported his manager (well apart from that re branding crap). That manager was Chris Hughton and the time was the Championship which Chris won with style and ease. So what exactly did Hughton do wrong? Has Ashley lost confidence in a man who is doing a great job? If we were bottom of the league, three or four points adrift then I think everyone would be sad to see Chris go but would agree. The fact is we sit in 11th on 19 points and have away victories at Everton, West Ham and Arsenal, great home wins against Aston Villa, a draw against the Champions, an away win in the Cup and of course, the one nobody could forget, the 5-1hammering of our local rivals. For that he deserved his contract as this certainly does not translate into failure.

Hughton's signing were good in Tiote and Ben Arfa. He was obviously very unlucky with Ben Arfa's injury by De Jong but the acquisition of Gosling was again good business. Everything Chris has done has been gained him more and more respect from the fans. He has won us over after going through some of the most difficult periods in our recent history, although it's never easy on Tyneside. The poor results we have had have been against teams we would have been looking at for points whilst we have picked up points from those we would have thought impossible so to turn things around (by the way crisis has not been mentioned on Tyneside) means that we have to beat teams like Blackpool and Blackburn when playing home fixtures. That task is much easier than going for the points against the better clubs in the Prem like Everton, Villa and the top four. We have done exceptionally well against all these teams this season bar Man United - even the Man City game at Eastlands should have been ours. Where was Ashley during these games? One can say Hughton has not been given a fair crack at the whip.

So what now then for NUFC and us, the long suffering fans of a club with so much promise? That seams a bit of a joke now with the thought of Alan Parwho coming to St James' Park. As far as Parwho is concerned I would rather have Steve Bruce. Yes, I did say Bruce. Maybe J.Kinnear is coming back, who knows what Ashley is planning. Would it shock you if he did? Would it shock you if O'Neill came? The only possible explanation is someone has been lined up. Martin Jol has just parted company with Ajax and is now being tipped to take over but what sort of experience has he got in the Premiership? Little that's what. He was at Spurs for as long as Chris has been at Newcastle in the Premiership except Chris has been involved with the Premiership ever since it started. I think Martin Jol will replace Hughton and I am not happy with it. What can he do Hughton could not?

United Knock Champions off Top Spot

Sunday had alarm bells ringing on Tyneside as the west London club came to St James' Park with intentions to clean up their losing act. With Barton, Williamson, collocini and Nolan all out is was always going to be a tough game. Chelsea started the game well but the presence of King Carroll puts the heebeejeebees up any defence and on 6 minutes Carrolls presence forced Alex into a back pass that went straight past Cech and Carroll had the legs to get round Cech and slot the ball into the empty net. 1-0 to United. A lead we did not expect but took with open hands. St James' Park went mad and the game had chances for both sides but as the top four have a habit of doing they grabbed an equaliser from a lucky deflection moments before the half time whistle. Talk about a good time to score, the game would surely be won by the champions now. After the break we had more of the same a very open game and one Newcastle took to Chelsea but with a lack of quality in the team we found it hard to capitalise on our chances. Ameobi was poor for this one along with Guthrie who seemed to hide but some welcomed news for our defence was that Taylor and Cambell came in and took care of defensive duties without a problem. Taylor who has not played since January did brilliantly and Campbell too but did look a little tired toward the end. My preferred pairing at the back alongside Simpson and Enrique who I have to say was our best player by far, always searching for the forward ball attacking the Chelsea defence and defending as though his life depended upon it. No way are we going down if we have players this committed something we have only envied in other clubs over recent years. Chelsea did have opportunities and they always will with this team but the defence was as good as their attack. They had the ball in the back of the net in the second half but the Ref got the decision spot on with a hand ball from Drogba. A point for both clubs saw Chelsea in second place behind Manchester Utd for the first time since going top this season. A fair result as both teams had chances they should have put away. A point cant be sniffed at from one of the top four home or away but lots of Newcastle fans felt very disappointed with only a point.

Taylor and Cambell came in and took care of defensive duties without a problem

Nolan now out with an ankle injure he has been playing on for weeks it is more bearable with the comeback of Barton for the away trip to the Hawthorns. Guthrie surely back on the bench as Routledge did put in a very positive performance and one he is likely to be rewarded for. The form of Carroll is still top quality but more worries for his strike partner as Ameobi was back to his old self. Ranger came on late against Chelsea and did cause some problems. Will the Ranger get his chance or will Ameobi get another? Best is back in contention now along with Lovenkrands who is struggling to find any decadent form this season. West Brom like to get the ball down and move it they had a massive win away at Everton at the weekend so with two teams with confidence and two managers who play openly this should be a cracking game maybe a advertisement for the Premiership from two promoted clubs? The likes of Campbell,Taylor and Tiote will need to be in top form for this trip as West Brom will be ready and waiting. United will go into this game looking for the points though as it would take us half way to safety and trying to better last seasons Championship opener of a draw.

Doing it the Hard Way

Saturday saw us on the road again but even though we have had many happy away days, this one was going to prove different with the likes of Barton and Tiote missing. Arguably our two best players this season would be missing the game due to suspension. The midfield was put together with Smith making a rare start with Gutierrez, Nolan and the still rusty Guthrie. Lovenkrands would be missing out as well whilst Ameobi made a comeback from a short break from a injury.

The game never really got going from a Newcastle perspective and a penalty given for handball by skipper Nolan was not what we needed. Bolton then doubled their lead and then went further ahead until Carroll got one back and we showed signs of a comeback for about five minutes. The game got worse though when they got another goal and to top it off the ref who should have gone to Specsavers gave another penalty for a good tackle by Enrique. Two bad penalty decisions on the day flattered Bolton who were the better team though still not a great team. They have been said to play good football but I did not see it. I did not see it from anyone in a Newcastle shirt either. A terrible day and a non performance by Smith and Guthrie who look very short of match practice. Smith, who was brilliant last season was not the same player. We lacked Joey's passion and ability to get the ball to the tall forwards with some accuracy. Tiote was missed as a holding player and we suffered because of his absence. Williamson clashed with Elmander early doors but the ref gave nothing and I saw it as an accidental clash as two players reacted to a long ball but ran into each other, as much Elmander's fault as it was Williamson's. I did argue about Colo's sending off before seeing the elbow in the replay. No arguments there - Colo should have walked before the ref pulled his card out. Williamson is not the type to go for another player, more of a honest hard worker to be honest but the FA have looked at it and he has been charged with violent conduct. So that leaves us with the very slow looking Campbell and unused Steven Taylor for our game with Chelsea with Kadar the only other center half on the bench.

We lacked Joey's passion and ability to get the ball to the tall forwards with some accuracy

Chelsea have been going through a bad patch and have their own problems with injuries and suspensions but our squad can't be compared with that of the Premier League Champions. We went down to Stamford Bridge only a few weeks ago now and gave them a good kicking. Can we do it again without Barton and Colo or are Chelsea going to come up here and give us a hiding?

We don't know that is exactly it. We can be sure our home form has got to improve. Maybe the likes of Campbell and Taylor will help that home form? I personally would like to see these two fully fit playing alongside one another before Colo and Willi.

The midfield has got to change. Smith will just not do and we need width and both wingers supplying the front men or man. It looks like Carroll may lead the line alone as he did with England last week. Nolan and Vuckic in the middle and Lovenkrands plying in the hole with Routledge on the right and Jonas left. We need pace in the team and wingers. Lovenkrands can run so he can work between the midfield and Carroll. Lovenkrands has been poor this season but some hard work could get him back upto scratch. Routledge should be seizing his chances and this is his time - possibly his last opportunity of Premiership football. As long as we're solid in the middle and back we should not ship too many goals while still being a threat up top. If Andy Carroll gets the ball he will be a handful so a little support is vital. I predict a defeat from the West Londoners but just hope we don't do it the hard way again.

Home to Fulham

A second game at home in a week against a side who have also had a good record at St James' in recent years and with our home form being questioned by everyone, this was a game most Geordies feared we may well lose. The ex Toon man brought his Fulham to Newcastle without a win since early last year but St James' has a habit of breaking the opposition's bad records.

The game kicked off without Ameobi and Barton who were both missing due to injury and suspension. Lovenkrands and Guthrie came in to the first team to try and get the team back to winning ways. These two were called rusty after the match; an understatement in my book. Smith however deserves a chance in the first team and with Barton out, this was his opportunity However, Houghton decided against it and went with the rusty Guthrie. Lovenkrands came in for Ameobi and Ranger stayed on the bench although he would surely have been a better swap for Shola. Ranger has made some appearances this season and done well but Lovenkrands has come on or played in games and looked nowhere near his best, going missing in games and missing good opportunities. This was no different as two very good chances fell to him but both were missed. Newcastle played out a 0-0 draw. A decent performance and most were happy with a point at home or happy at not losing. The second half should have given us a goal and the points but it wasn't to be so Fulham went home with another away point to West London.

We must battle through this period and do all we can to get as many points on the board before Christmas

Now Joey Barton is out for another two games, we are going to need someone to step up into the first team without too much disruption. Tiote is now out for the Bolton game as he reached his 5th yellow against the Cottagers. That leaves us with Gutierrez, Nolan, Routledge,Smith, Guthrie and Vuckic. That means we will have a first team place for any of these players. Key to this period is not to lose. We must battle through this period and do all we can to get as many points on the board before Christmas. Routledge will have to do better if he is to come in to the first team as so far he looks out of his depth. On a brighter note though, Simpson has come in and hasdone very well, he looks like an improved player since last season and Timmy Krull is begining to make some fantastic saves. All is not bad, far be it. Things are good and we still have competition for places even with key players out injured or suspended.

Barton, Tiote, Gosling, Ben Arfa, Harper and Ameobi - it could be argued that 6 first teamers are out but Houghton has not mentioned this fact. He doesn't need to we sit in the top half of the table and still have players competing for places. The fact that we have six players to come back into the squad must give the confidence that we can come out this season alive and kicking in the Premiership.

Bolton are high flying at the moment with Elmander and Davies having a blinding season. It's not going to be an easy place to go and take the points. They are well drilled and can handle the aerial threat of Andy Carroll. Newcastle will have to be at their very best again on Saturday to give the Toon Army something to shout about again.

Rovers DONT Return

Blackburn were the visitors last night with a canny record on Tyneside in recent history. However with confidence at a high after taking the point at the Emirates, Newcastle came into the match looking to stop the recent rot against Rovers. A measly crowd of just over 41,000 turned up for a drab game which saw our poor home form return in style against a team in the bottom five. Unsurprisingly an unchanged side was named and the snow held off.

The first three minutes proved crucial for Rovers who took a sample of the refereeing Tony Pulis has been going mad over the last week or so. Gamst Pedersen ran out to collect a ball going away from goal to the sideline with chase from Gutierrez. G Pedersen saw Gutierrez so he backed up and knocked the Argentinian winger off balance and somehow the ref managed to give a vital free-kick to Rovers. In my book that was a clear foul on us with a possible yellow card. The ref gave it to Rovers though and from the non-clearance by Tiote, Pedersen won the ball on the edge of our area, had a couple of touches and BAM. 0-1 Rovers up at St James' again and Al lard dyce was happy. A dreadful game ensued but no goals followed.

The second half saw an almost identical goal to Sunday's win at Arsenal. Joey Barton floated a cross from near the dugouts and Carroll, rising higher than any Rover, put the ball in the back of the net to make it 1-1 and set St James' alight. Although Newcastle should now have the momentum, as usual against inferior teams this season, we sat off and never looked like taking the lead. Blackburn were terrible though and I have no idea how their fans can bear to watch that kind of football. No wonder they did not sell their meagre 1,700 ticket allocation. They were the team who scored next though. A long punt down field saw Roberts beat Colo, knock down Williamson and stab the ball past Krull. 1-2 Rovers and eight minutes to go plus stoppage time. A few half chances and a penalty claim was all that we could muster and a chance to go fourth went begging. We still stand 5th and have another mid-table team who always do well at St James' on Saturday; Fulham visit for the normal 3pm KO.

More front page paper tripe will be taken from this game when Mr Barton gave Gamst 'rent boy' Pederson a slap in the gut for not much really. Barton got away with it on the night but the cameras picked up on it as did the Sky News pundit who mentioned it about 20 times in as many minutes. Joey is on four yellows at the moment but that incident will surely warrant a ban of 2 or three game maybe more with his past.
That incident and injury to Ameobi sees our run of games with an unchanged side more than likely come to an end. Let's look forward to the rematch at little Ewood Park as we are in good form away and should spank Al Lard ayce's Rovers team easily.

Good to Good to be Good to be a TOONER

Newcastle United made the trip to the capital amid a media circus of fresh allegations and reversed psychology from non other than Arsene Wenger. The point was to take Newcastle's eye off the ball and fall into the trap. The pre-match broon ales were flowing and the Toon were sitting comfortably in 9th with the weekend fixtures going our way. Anything more than a loss would see us climb above the Unwashed, Super Spurs and Bolton. During the build up to this early Sunday kick-off, I almost uttered the words, "If we wi... " but was given a quick "don't bother" look by a few Geordies so I shut up mid sentence and kept what I should have said to myself. The post game talk seemed to give the impression that success would be if we kept the number of goals down. If we could grab a late equaliser then great, that would do to take us up to 5th. All in all, there did not appear to be any high hopes in the media for Newcastle.

So we headed down toward Gilespie Road for the game with about 20 mins to go. When we took our seats, standing up obviously, the Geordies were in good spirits and the battle of the stands looked to be over before kick off; it is the Emirates afterall. The game kicked off with pressure from the home side and a free kick by Flabbyass that hit the wood work. Arsenal came close again but this time Timmy Krull made an astonishing save to tip the ball over from Nasri for a corner. Newcastle played an epic match and threw all we had at the ball to snuff out anything Arsenal could come up with. We even took the game to them and the after match stats tell the story of how we came to the Emirates and played Arsenal well and not of a performance where we would sit back and hope for a 0-0. Great performaces again from the likes of Tiote, Barton, Ameobi and Carroll but more to the point all the boys especially the defence played their role in this encounter.

I almost uttered the words, "If we wi... "

Arsenal did get a slice of cold revenge served up by local hero Andy Carroll - one that was promised from captain Nolan after the heavy defeat sustained at home to Arsenal only a few days earlier. With the game at 0-1 to Newcastle the ref blew his whistle for half time. The atmosphere in the ground was good and the second half kicked off to the sound of the Geordie Vuvuzela. We carried on the battle as in the first half but Arsenal were the team to come closest. Walcott, who scored 2 in the Carling Cup, picked the ball up in a packed 18 yard box and let go a shot that once again struck the cross bar. AFC 0-1 NUFC the score stood at and with the game coming to a close, Flabbyass was lucky to stay on the pitch with some awful challenges the like of De jong would be proud. Ameobi came off towards the end for his second standing ovation in a week. Young Nile Ranger came on and could have sealed the match when he decided on an overhead kick instead of squaring the ball to Kevin 'Funky Chicken' Nolan. 2 minutes later, Ranger chased a ball down the right and beat his man only to be professionally fouled by Koscielny. The Arsenal defender was rightly shown the red card and the home team played out the last few moments to the sound of boos and jeers from the home fans. Meanwhile the Geordies boys are jumping for joy in the away section as the lads come across the pitch to throw their shirts and applaud the support. Up to 4th in the Premiership and not far off Arsenal with Man City to play an hour or so later. A win from City would see us slide again but only down to 5th. The applause were all for Newcastle today as we put in a memorable shift with emphasis on team work.

Newcastl have Alardyce and his Rovers team at st Jamse' on wednesday one that must not be waisted its vital we get points from these games now that we seem to have put our dodgy home form behind us.

One more thing good on the Gooners for taking the defeat well, they all said after the game we deserved it, they were not happy about it but they gave us credit. I applaud them for that.

Are you watching Fabio?

Article by Mark Pinkney

Joey Barton is my favourite Newcastle player. Wow, this is something I could not even imagine uttering not too long ago.

As a £6 million 2007 signing, it has a been a long few years of serious injury problems and even more serious off-field issues, including months of jail time. I believe everyone deserves a second chance, but it is fair to say that Barton has been given more second chances than most. Many have questioned the decision by Newcastle to continue to support him, especially through numerous off-field issues but although a long time coming, he is now starting to pay back that support and answer his many critics in style.

This season, his crosses, free kicks and passing have been getting better and better. Last week his build-up with Shola Ameobi, another player slowly winning back my confidence in him, culminated in his inch perfect cross for Andy Carroll to head home the game winner against West Ham. Off the ball, he defends hard, pressuring the opposition - along with Nolan and Tiote - in a way that reminds me of the sometimes lone determination James Milner had in a Toon shirt in our last year before relegation. Something that has really impressed me this year has been Barton's ability to deal with the niggle of the game as well. This was highlighted best in his display against Mick McCarthy's Wolves, in which he frequently picked himself up and walked away without complaint as he was targetted tackle after tackle.

he is now starting to pay back that support and answer his many critics in style

With the current 4-4-2 formation giving him two towering strikers in Ameobi and Carroll to aim at, and with Nolan always there to sniff out deflections, knockdowns and any other loose balls in the goal box, Barton has every chance of continuing to be one of the most valuable contributors to the team. If he is able to continue his current form and keep his cool, on and off the field, he will soon be winning back the hearts of more and more Toon fans. I, for one, believe it will be thoroughly deserved. After all, it has been a very long and hard road back for Joey Barton.
